Time For Action!

This week we share a powerful message from Julio Melara. Julio's message is a great reminder for us about the importance of taking action. We are sure that you all have had to face difficult decisions in your lives or business in pursuit of your goals and dreams, and if you are like most people there have been times when you have become stuck in making a difficult decision. The worst thing we can do is not make a decision!

Julio's message gives us a few encouraging reasons to go ahead and take action!

“The possibilities are numerous once we decide to act and not react.“ (George Bernard Shaw)

The other day I was having a conversation with a friend that was looking for some advice.  As I shared with him my perspective on his situation he said, “I know that.”  Once he said it a second time, I said, “it’s not enough to know, you must do.”   To know something is not enough, one must put into action what we have learned otherwise, it’s worthless.  This got me thinking – a big mistake that many people make when trying to improve their lives is they just don’t take action based on what they learn from books, mentors or seminars.  They wait, delay and procrastinate.  They don’t realize procrastination is the thief of time and dreams.

If you aren’t already taking action and doing so consistently you need to start right now.  Today, I want to share three simple reasons why you need TO DO IT NOW!

1. If YOU don’t take Action now – no one is going to do it for you!

This may be a bit direct but it’s the truth.  The sooner you realize that no one else will do this for you the quicker you will improve your life.  When you carry personal responsibility on your shoulders there is no room for chips.  Personal responsibility is the key to improve and control your own life.  Without taking personal responsibility, what you want will stay a dream or just talk that leads to pretty much nothing in the long term.

You can blame your problems and lack of success on anyone you like and waste your time and energy or you can get help from family, friends, books or mentors. But your life is your responsibility and it’s up to you to create the life you want to live.

2. Knowledge without application is worthless.

We all know attending a great seminar or reading a good book can make you feel good.  You may be learning about new things and useful information so it kind of feels like you are making progress and improving your life but if you’re not being proactive and putting it into action it really is worthless.  As many of you know, I’m a big believer in reading positive and helpful material.  Personally, I believe it’s a good habit to spend a bit of time with a good personal development book rather than a half an hour a day watching the news.  However, I do believe that some people fool themselves into thinking that reading in some way will replace action, that reading will take care of their problems in some magical way.  It doesn’t.  Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, the German poet once said, “Thinking is easy, acting is difficult, and to put ones thoughts into action is the most difficult thing in the world.”  He was right!  We have to apply what we learn.

3.  Time will pass no matter what you do.

For many people later becomes never.  When I was in my twenties I went to a seminar and remember the speaker saying, “A year from now you may wish you had started today.”  It impacted me so much that chapter five in my book, “It Only Takes Everything You’ve Got!” is titled, “I have lots of weaknesses but taking ACTION is not one of them”.   While I have many areas that I need to improve in, taking action is not one of them.  Today I want to remind you that your life is not endless.  Your time is one the most important things in your life.  Don’t waste a huge chunk of it.  Start taking action towards what you really want out of life today.  Remember, stop making excuses for why you don’t get it done and start focusing on all the reason why you must make it happen.  TIME FOR ACTION!

Quote of the Week

Nature gave us two ends: one to sit on and one to think with. Ever since then, man's success or failure has been dependent on the one he used most.

(Robert Albert Bloch)

Word of the Week

Circumlocution (ser-kum-loh-kyoo-shun) : The use of an unnecessarily large number of words to express an idea.

eg:
Harvey was notorious for his tendency to engage in endless circumlocution when a simple, brief explanation would suffice.

Proverb of the Week

A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.

(Proverbs 14 verse 30 The Bible)
