The Two Scoreboards!

As a former major junior and professional hockey player, I’ve spent most of my life chasing progress. Competing. Measuring. Winning.

From the time I was a kid dreaming of the NHL to the moment I signed a contract with the New York Rangers, my world revolved around one thing: Scoreboard One.

Check Out Our Video Of The Week – Make An Impact

Scoreboard One: The Drive To Win

This is the scoreboard most of us know well. It’s all about performance, success, and results.

- Athletes track goals, assists, and championships.

- Salespeople monitor their numbers and commissions.

- Executives chase revenue, KPIs, and market share.

Students count grades, and writers like me watch book rankings and sales.

Let’s be honest—we all like to win. And that’s a good thing.

Some of the most valuable lessons in my life came from pushing myself in this arena.

Discipline. Focus. Grit. Resilience.

But over time, something shifted.

Because even when you win, a voice inside starts to whisper: Is this all there is?

Scoreboard Two: The Legacy You Leave

As I moved beyond my playing career, I started to realize that there’s a second, much bigger scoreboard. And it’s not about you—it’s about others.

I began coaching youth hockey—not just to teach skills, but to mentor young players on how to lead, grow, and live with character.

I leaned deeper into my faith, began serving in my church, and made it a personal mission to show up every day as a better husband and father.

And that’s when I truly understood:

Success is great. But significance is greater.

This second scoreboard is all about legacy.

It’s about impact.

It’s about how many people you help, encourage, and lift up along the way.

That’s exactly why I launched this newsletter.

After years of competing, leading, learning, and growing, I wanted to create something that would encourage others the way I’ve been encouraged.

The Monday Morning Motivator was never about me. It was—and still is—about you.

Your mindset. Your growth. Your purpose.

I wanted it to be a weekly dose of hope. Of grit. Of perspective.

A reminder that no matter what scoreboard you’re tracking, your life matters, and your story has power.

If something I’ve experienced, learned, or lived through can inspire someone else to keep going, shift their mindset, or lead with more love—then I know I’m on the right track.

From Winning to Serving

The competitive fire that fueled me in hockey now drives me in a different direction:

To coach not just athletes, but people.

To lead not just on the ice, but in my home and community.

To build not just success—but legacy.

Scoreboard One helped me achieve a dream.

Scoreboard Two is helping me live my purpose.

And I believe the first scoreboard was preparation for the second all along.

How Are You Measuring Your Life?

It’s easy to get caught up in the wins and losses, the numbers and stats.

But when the game clock winds down and the lights go out, what really matters is this:

Did you make a difference?

Did you give your best?

Did you help someone else rise?

My hope is that this newsletter—and my life—points you toward a bigger scoreboard.

One that’s not just about what you do, but about who you become and how you serve.

Because in the end, we’re not remembered for how high we climbed.

We’re remembered for how deeply we loved and how many people we helped climb with us.

Let’s make this week count—for the right reasons.
