I AM
Over the years—whether on the ice as a pro hockey player, in the boardroom running a business, or behind the bench coaching—I’ve learned one simple truth: what you believe shapes how you live.
I’ve faced plenty of moments when negativity tried to creep in.
Times when business setbacks made me wonder if I’d recover.

Times when coaching, I saw players get stuck in self-doubt. And one of the biggest tests came when my son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at just four years old.
In those early days, fear and frustration whispered, “This is too much. You can’t handle this.” But faith reminded me of something greater: God equips us for the challenges He places in front of us.
With my family rallying together, prayer as our anchor, and a shift in mindset, we found the strength to fight through.
Just like in hockey, when you step onto the ice believing you’re beaten—you are.
But when you declare with conviction, “I am ready. I am strong. I am a difference maker”—your actions rise to meet your words.
That’s why I encourage the players I coach, and the clients I serve in business, to be mindful of their self-talk.
Words carry power. When you declare “I am…” you’re not just describing yourself—you’re shaping your future.
I’ve seen young athletes go from timid to fearless when they change their inner voice. I’ve seen businesses rally when leaders choose optimism over despair.
And I’ve lived it in my own life, where persistence, resilience, and faith turned what felt like setbacks into opportunities.
The Bible reminds us, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7) And I believe that applies to all of us.
So, here’s my encouragement for you this week: Fill in the blank.
Say it out loud.
Believe it.
Live it.
I am __________.
Maybe for you it’s:
I am resilient.
I am faithful.
I am strong.
I am a leader.
I am an overcomer.
For me? I am an encourager. And I hope this message encouraged you today.
