Turning Wins and Losses Into Lessons
As a professional hockey player, I learned early on that not every game ends with your arms and stick raised in victory.
For every moment of celebration in the locker room, there were nights when we walked off the ice with heavy hearts.

It’s the same in business and in life. Sometimes we win the account, the deal, the opportunity—and sometimes we lose the very thing we worked hardest for.
Winning matters. Losing matters. But what matters most is how we respond to both.
When we win, do we stay humble and hungry, or do we let success make us complacent?
I’ve seen it in hockey—teams that think the next win will come just because the last one did.
The truth is, success takes the same determination, effort, and mindset every single time.
If we’re not careful, winning can lull us into thinking we don’t need to prepare, push, or improve.
The key is to let victory fuel you, not fool you. Celebrate, then get back to work—because there’s always another game to play, another challenge to face.
But even more telling than how we handle wins is how we handle losses.
I’ve had my share. I’ve lost big games on the ice. I’ve lost business accounts I thought were sure things.
And as a father and husband, when my son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes or when my wife found out she had skin cancer, I felt the sting of loss in a way that went far deeper than sports or business.
In that moment, it felt like the biggest challenge of my life—and it was.
But here’s what my family and I chose to do: we rallied. We leaned into our faith in God.
We asked what we could learn, how we could get stronger, and how we could face each day with hope instead of fear.
In our family, LOSS has come to stand for: Learning Opportunity, Stay Strong.
Every setback holds a lesson. Every loss can shape character, deepen resilience, and prepare us for future battles.
And with faith, even the hardest losses can become turning points for growth.
At the end of the day, life isn’t about winning or losing—it’s about becoming.
The lessons we learn, the strength we build, and the people we impact along the way matter more than the scoreboard.
So whether you’re celebrating a victory or wrestling with a defeat, remember: you have a choice in how you respond. This is something I was reminded about just recently!
And that choice is what truly defines whether you win in the game of life.
If your business needs marketing that works, give us a call. We're here to help!
Have a great day unless you chose otherwise!
