Would You Call You?

A question I came across recently stopped me in my tracks: If you were stuck in a foreign prison and had one phone call — who would you call to get you out?

It made me think deeply about the kind of people I’ve been blessed to know throughout my journey — in hockey, business, and life. And more importantly, it made me ask myself another question: Would I be the person someone else would call?

Check Out Our Video Of The Week – See The Purpose

When you think about it, that question really isn’t about getting out of a prison — it’s about what kind of person you are when life throws you into one. Because at some point, we all find ourselves “trapped” in something — a setback, a tough loss, a financial challenge, or even a season of doubt or fear.

Over the years, I’ve learned that the people who rise above those moments share a few traits — traits that I’ve tried to build in my own life and pass on to the players I coach.

1. Bias for Action

In hockey, you don’t get time to think twice when the puck drops. You react. You move. You adapt. Life’s the same way — sometimes you just need to take action. Don’t wait for perfect conditions; they rarely come.

2. Resourcefulness

I’ve seen teammates find a way to make something out of nothing. Whether it was scoring the tying goal with a broken stick or finding a business solution with zero budget, true leaders are resourceful. They don’t make excuses — they make things happen.

3. Courage to Challenge

You can’t lead if you’re afraid to question the status quo. The best teams I’ve ever been a part of were full of guys who weren’t afraid to speak up — not to tear down, but to make everyone better.

4. Self-Belief Rooted in Faith

This one might be the most important. Confidence isn’t arrogance — it’s trust. For me, that trust starts with my faith in God.

It’s knowing that no matter what happens, He’s got a plan. That foundation gives me peace in chaos and strength in adversity.

So, back to that original question — who would I call?

I’ve been blessed to know people who embody all those traits — the kind who take charge, think clearly, lead boldly, and lean on faith. But more importantly, I want to be that person for others.

That’s my goal — to live, lead, and serve in a way that, if someone I love ever found themselves in trouble, they’d say, “Call Drago. He’ll figure it out.”

And maybe that’s something worth striving for this year — to become the kind of person others can count on when things get tough.

Because at the end of the day, high character and high faith build high agency.

Be the one who can find a way — for yourself and for others.

If your business needs marketing that works, give us a call. We're here to help!

Have a great day unless you chose otherwise!
