When The Game Is Over

One thing hockey teaches you early is that the clock never stops. Shifts end. Periods expire. Games are decided. Seasons move on—whether you’re ready or not.

Life works the same way.

Check Out Our Video Of The Week – What Will He Get

This past weekend, I came across a message a good friend shared with me—something I hadn’t read in years. As I read it again, it hit me differently this time. Maybe it’s because I’ve lived more life. Maybe it’s because I’ve been in enough locker rooms, boardrooms, hospital rooms, and living rooms to know what truly matters—and what doesn’t.

It stopped me in my tracks and reminded me of something we all need to hear from time to time: We get one life. One shift. One chance to make it count.

There will come a day when the final buzzer sounds for all of us.

There will be no more mornings to wake up to. No more practices, meetings, or second chances. The things we worked so hard to accumulate—whether meaningful or meaningless—will eventually belong to someone else.

The titles, the stats, the bank accounts, the recognition… they all fade.

The wins and losses that once consumed our thoughts won’t matter the way we thought they did. Where we came from, what we looked like, how impressive we appeared on paper—none of that will carry the weight we once gave it.

So what will matter?

I’ve learned that what matters isn’t what we got, but what we gave. Not what we accumulated, but what we built. Not how successful we were, but how significant we were.

What will matter is whether we lived with integrity when no one was watching. Whether we showed compassion when it was inconvenient. Whether we had the courage to stand for what was right—even when it cost us.

What will matter is not how many people knew our name, but how many lives were better because we were in them.

As a coach, I think about this often. Players won’t remember every drill or system, but they’ll remember how you made them feel. As a parent, it’s not the things you buy your kids that shape them most—it’s the time you give, the love you show, and the example you set.

Character outlasts credentials. Impact outlives achievement.

Living a life that matters doesn’t happen by accident. It’s not about luck or circumstance.

It’s a choice.

A choice to be present. A choice to love deeply. A choice to serve faithfully. A choice to live on purpose.

So as you head into this week, I’ll leave you with this question: When your game is over… what will matter about how you played it?

Choose to live a life that matters.

If your business needs marketing that works, give us a call. We're here to help!

Have a great day unless you chose otherwise!

Quote of the Week

I’ve grown most not from victories but from setbacks. If winning is God’s reward, then losing is how he teaches us.

Serena Williams

Word of the Week

Exculpate (ek-skull-payt): To exculpate someone is to prove that they are not guilty of doing something wrong.

eg: The editorial expresses confidence that the evidence will exculpate the accused.

Proverb of the Week

Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues.
