Lessons From The Climb
One of the greatest blessings of my life has been the opportunity to spend time with remarkable people—championship athletes, business leaders, coaches, entrepreneurs, and men and women of deep faith and conviction.
I’ve sat in locker rooms after heartbreaking losses and in boardrooms after hard-earned victories. I’ve listened to stories of people who overcame injuries, bankruptcies, rejection, doubt, and personal hardship.
What stands out isn’t just their success. It’s the climb.

The Climb Is Not Optional
In hockey, you don’t get dropped into the championship round. You earn your way there shift by shift, game by game, season by season.
If someone dropped you at the summit without the climb, you wouldn’t survive the altitude. The grind prepares you for the reward.
The struggle builds capacity. The discipline builds character. The setbacks build resilience.
The climb isn’t punishment. It’s preparation.
You Control Inputs — But You’re Measured by Outputs
As a player and now as a coach, I talk about preparation constantly. You control your effort, your training, your mindset.
But at the end of the day, results matter. If growth isn’t happening over time, adjustments are required.
Short term, inputs and outputs may feel disconnected. Long term, they must align.
Everything Matters
The little things win games—back checking, habits, preparation, attitude.
You don’t get to choose when to show up. Leaders show up especially when it’s inconvenient.
Energy in the small things creates impact in the big things.
Attitude Reflects Leadership
Culture is not accidental. It’s created.
If you want energy, bring it. If you want unity, live it.
Listen More Than You Speak
The quality of your listening determines the quality of your leadership.
Stop trying to be interesting. Focus on being interested.
Don’t Have a Great Day — Make One
You are not passive in your life. You are a participant.
You don’t wait for a good day. You create one.
Leave Ego at the Door
Growth requires humility. The goal isn’t to win arguments—it’s to win in life.
Choose Relationships Over Transactions
Life is about relationships, not transactions.
Build trust. Build loyalty. Build connection.
We get one life. One climb.
Climb with intention. And when you reach the summit, be prepared to stay there.
If your business needs marketing that works, give us a call. We're here to help!
Have a great day unless you chose otherwise!
