The Real Driver Of Success
Over the years—through hockey, business, coaching, and life—I’ve had the opportunity to be around some incredibly successful people. Championship athletes. High-level executives. Leaders who built something from nothing.
And here’s what I’ve noticed:
Success leaves clues.
Check Out Our Video Of The Week – Grit, Growth & Glory

Research shows that the number one predictor of long-term success isn’t talent. It isn’t IQ. It isn’t wealth, opportunity, or appearance.
It’s grit.
The ability to stay with something for a long time. To work hard when no one is watching. To persevere when others quit. To keep showing up after rejection, failure, or setbacks.
Success doesn’t happen overnight. In fact, the bigger the goal, the longer the road—and the more resistance you’ll face.
But that raises a bigger question:
If grit is so important… what fuels it?
Through my own journey, I’ve learned that grit doesn’t exist in isolation. It’s driven by deeper forces.
Grit Is Driven by Love
If you don’t love what you’re doing, you won’t endure the grind.
I didn’t chase hockey because it was easy. I chased it because I loved it. The early mornings, the practices, the bus rides, the injuries—it only makes sense if you love it.
Love keeps you coming back when logic says quit.
Grit Is Inspired by Vision and Purpose
You need a reason bigger than the obstacle in front of you.
When I set my goal to play professional hockey, it wasn’t just about a contract. It was about becoming the best version of who God created me to be.
When your vision is clear and your purpose is strong, circumstances don’t control you.
Grit Is Fueled by Optimism and Belief
You can’t grind for years if you don’t believe something better is ahead.
Belief creates behavior. If you believe growth is possible, you keep working.
Optimism isn’t naïve. It’s powerful.
Grit Is Powered by Faith and Hope
There are moments when positive thinking isn’t enough.
That’s where faith carried me.
Faith keeps you focused on possibility instead of problems. Hope keeps you moving forward when results aren’t visible yet.
Grit Is Revived by Resilience
You will get knocked down.
Resilience isn’t pretending it doesn’t hurt. It’s getting back up anyway.
And resilience grows in community—teammates, mentors, family, faith.
Grit Is Kept Alive by Stubbornness
Every successful person I know has a little stubbornness in them.
They refuse to quit.
They don’t let circumstances define them. They define their response to circumstances.
And Yes… Grit Includes a Healthy Fear of Failure
Not a paralyzing fear—but a motivating one.
The best players I’ve been around still carried a healthy respect for failure. It kept them practicing and preparing.
At the end of the day, success isn’t magic.
It’s love.
It’s purpose.
It’s belief.
It’s faith.
It’s resilience.
It’s stubborn determination.
Grit isn’t just about toughness.
It’s about what fuels your toughness.
Now the question is: What’s driving you?
If your business needs marketing that works, give us a call. We're here to help!
Have a great day unless you chose otherwise!
