1% Better

One of the things I always ask the kids I coach is this: When we’re heading into the third period of a game, I look around the room and say, “Can each of you be just 1% better this period?” And every single time, without hesitation, they yell back: “Yes, Coach!”

They believe it.

They feel it.

They’re ready.

But here’s the real question…

What if we asked ourselves that same question?

Check Out Our Video Of The Week – 1% Better Each Day

Can you be 1% better today at work?

1% better at home?

1% better in your relationships?

1% better in how you show up as a leader, a parent, a teammate?

If we’re honest, our answer would probably be the same:

Yes.

So why don’t we?

The Power of Better

Over the years, I’ve realized something simple—but powerful: The secret to growth can be summed up in one word: Better.

Better always works.

Better moves you forward.

Better breaks complacency.

Better increases your value.

Nobody has ever said, “Don’t make it better.”

We all want better:

Better health.

Better relationships.

Better performance.

Better lives.

Better Isn’t Big—It’s Consistent

Here’s where most people get it wrong. We think growth has to be dramatic.

A huge leap.

A massive breakthrough.

An overnight transformation.

But that’s not how it usually works. Most of the time, growth looks like this:

Small improvements.

Done consistently.

Over time.

It’s the extra rep.

The extra effort.

The extra bit of focus when you’re tired.

That’s what compounds.

You don’t need to be 200% better overnight.

But can you be 5% better this week?

Can you be 1% better today?

That’s realistic.

That’s doable.

That’s how real growth happens.

Define What “Better” Means

Before you can improve, you need clarity. Because not all change is progress. “Different” doesn’t always mean “better.”

So ask yourself: What does better actually look like for me?

Where do I want to grow?

Who do I want to become?

You can’t hit a target you can’t see.

Ask for Honest Feedback

One of the most important things I’ve learned: If you really want to grow—you can’t do it alone.

Ask people you trust:

Your teammates.

Your coworkers.

Your family.

But not just anyone.

Ask people who care enough about you to tell you the truth.

Not what you want to hear… What you need to hear. Because growth lives in honesty. Focus on One Thing

Here’s another trap I see all the time: People try to improve everything at once.

It sounds great…

But it doesn’t work.

Too many priorities = no real progress.

Instead, ask yourself: What is ONE thing I can do better today? Just one.

Then commit to it.

That’s how momentum starts.

Final Thought

Those kids in the locker room believe they can be better.

They don’t overthink it.

They don’t complicate it.

They just go out and do it.

Maybe that’s the lesson for all of us. We don’t need a complete overhaul.

We just need to get a little bit better—consistently. Because when you stack enough “better” days together…

You build a better life.

If your business needs marketing that works, give us a call. We're here to help!

Have a great day unless you chose otherwise!
