Consistency Compounds!
Today I share a powerful message from Jon Gordon that really resonated with me and made me reflect on how consistency has shaped so much of my life—both personally and professionally.
As I thought about it, I realized that some of the biggest moments in my journey didn’t happen because of one breakthrough or one big day.
They happened because of small things done consistently over time.
The Conversation That Stuck With Me
A few months ago, Jon shared a story about sitting at an event with leadership expert John Maxwell.
Jon asked him: “John, years ago when I first visited you at Maximum Impact, I was in my thirties and you were in your late fifties. You were already respected and successful, but now you’ve become iconic. What’s the key?”
John looked at him and answered with two simple words: “Consistency compounds.”
That answer stuck with me.
Because the more I reflect on my own journey—in hockey, coaching, business, faith, and life—the more I realize how true that is.
The Little Things Become Big Things
When people look at success, they often focus on the big moments.
The championship.
The promotion.
The opportunity.
The recognition.
But what most people don’t see is what happened long before those moments arrived.
The early mornings.
The extra workouts.
The sacrifices.
The habits.
The discipline.
In hockey, nobody becomes a great player overnight.
It’s built one practice at a time. One workout at a time. One extra effort at a time.
And eventually…
Those small consistent actions begin to compound.
Consistency Builds Confidence
As a coach, I’ve seen players completely transform over time.
Not because they changed overnight.
But because they committed to getting a little bit better every day.
Better habits.
Better focus.
Better discipline.
Better attitude.
And after enough days stacked together… The growth becomes impossible to ignore.
That’s the power of consistency.
It Applies to Every Area of Life
The same thing happens in life.
Your health compounds.
Your mindset compounds.
Your relationships compound.
Your faith compounds.
Your leadership compounds.
What you repeatedly do matters.
Not just once.
But over time.
You Don’t Have to Be Extraordinary
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is this:
You don’t have to be the smartest person in the room.
You don’t have to be the most talented.
You don’t have to have everything figured out. You just have to keep showing up.
Consistently.
Even on the days you don’t feel like it.
Even when results aren’t immediate.
Even when nobody notices.
Because eventually…
Consistency compounds.
What Are You Building Right Now?
So the real question is: What are you consistently building?
Are your daily habits moving you closer to who you want to become?
Because whether we realize it or not…
We’re all compounding something.
The small choices we make each day are shaping our future.
Final Thought
Most success stories don’t happen in giant moments.
They happen quietly.
In ordinary days.
The days where you kept showing up.
The days where you stayed disciplined.
The days where you kept working even when progress felt slow.
That’s where growth happens.
That’s where character is built.
And over time…
Consistency compounds.
