Love. Serve. Care.
Over the years, I've had the privilege of playing hockey at a high level, coaching young athletes, building businesses, leading teams, and walking through some incredible highs and some very difficult lows.
People often ask me what I've learned.
What are the secrets to success?
What makes a great leader?
What separates the people who make a lasting impact from those who simply pass through life?
The older I get, the more I realize that life is much simpler than we often make it.
We live in a world full of complicated formulas, success strategies, and step-by-step systems promising to help us get ahead.
But when I look back on the people who have influenced my life the most—the coaches, teammates, mentors, business leaders, and people of faith—I see three simple principles that show up over and over again:
Love. Serve. Care.
It sounds simple.
Because it is.
But simple doesn't mean easy.
These three principles have the power to transform our families, our teams, our businesses, and our communities.
LOVE
Everything starts with love.
As a hockey player, I learned very quickly that talent can only take you so far.
There are too many early mornings.
Too many tough practices.
Too many setbacks.
Too many disappointments.
If you don't love what you're doing, eventually you'll quit when things get hard.
But when you love something, you find a way to keep going.
You embrace the challenges because the purpose is bigger than the pain.
The same is true in life.
The best coaches I've ever been around didn't just know systems and strategies.
They loved their players.
The best leaders I've met didn't just care about results.
They cared about people.
The best teachers didn't simply teach lessons.
They cared about the students sitting in front of them.
Love is what separates good from great.
People know when they're genuinely valued.
They know when someone believes in them.
And when people know they're loved, they often accomplish things they never thought possible.
Great teams are built on trust.
Trust is built through relationships.
And relationships are built on love.
SERVE
When you truly love people, service becomes natural.
Serving is simply love in action.
Throughout my coaching journey, I've learned that leadership isn't about being in charge.
It's about helping others become the best version of themselves.
The greatest coaches serve their players.
The greatest leaders serve their teams.
The greatest parents serve their families.
The greatest businesses serve their customers.
When we stop asking, 'What's in it for me?' and start asking, 'How can I help?' everything changes.
I've seen this firsthand.
The players who focus solely on themselves rarely reach their full potential.
The teams that focus on each other accomplish remarkable things.
Service requires sacrifice.
It requires giving your time, your energy, your attention, and sometimes your comfort.
But here's the amazing thing:
When you help others grow, you grow.
When you help others succeed, you become better.
When you serve something bigger than yourself, you discover a deeper purpose.
CARE
Love starts the relationship.
Service strengthens it.
But caring is what makes it unforgettable.
Caring means paying attention.
It means taking the extra step.
It means noticing the player who is struggling.
The teammate who needs encouragement.
The family member who needs your time.
The employee who needs your support.
In today's world, caring stands out because so many people are distracted.
They're busy. They're focused on themselves.
When someone genuinely cares, people notice.
As a coach, I've learned that players may forget what you said.
They may forget a drill. They may even forget the score of a game.
But they never forget how you made them feel.
People remember those who cared.
Caring is also what turns ordinary work into something extraordinary.
Anyone can do a job.
But when you put your heart into it—when you pour your passion, effort, and character into what you are building—you create something that lasts.
Whether it's a team, a business, a family, or a legacy, caring is what elevates good work into great work.
Final Thought
Many people spend their lives chasing success.
But I've come to believe that success is often the by-product of something much deeper.
Love people.
Serve others.
Show that you care.
Do that consistently, one person at a time, one day at a time, and incredible things begin to happen.
You'll build stronger relationships.
You'll become a better leader.
You'll make a bigger impact.
And most importantly, you'll leave behind something far more valuable than trophies, titles, or accomplishments.
You'll leave behind people whose lives are better because you were part of them.
At the end of the day, that's what truly matters.
Love.
Serve.
Care.
Simple principles.
Powerful results.

Have a great day unless you chose otherwise!
