Be The Ant!

"Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest." — Proverbs 6:6-8

Have you ever stopped to watch an ant?

Most of us don't. We walk right past them without giving them a second thought. Yet, in Proverbs, God doesn't tell us to study the eagle, the lion, or the horse. He points us to one of the smallest creatures on earth and says, "Consider its ways and be wise."

That made me curious.

So I spent some time learning about ants, and what I discovered was incredible. They may be small, but they possess qualities that can teach every one of us something about success, leadership, and life.

Here are five lessons we can all learn from the ant.

1. Great People Don't Need to Be Watched

The Bible says the ant has no commander, no overseer, and no ruler.

Think about that.

No one is standing over its shoulder. No one is reminding it what to do. No one is checking to see if it's working.

It simply does what needs to be done. That's called self-discipline.

One of the greatest indicators of character isn't what you do when your boss, coach, teacher, or parents are watching. It's what you do when no one is.

Successful people don't need constant motivation. They've developed the habit of motivating themselves.

2. Preparation Always Beats Panic

The ant gathers its food during the summer.

Why?

Because it knows winter is coming.

It doesn't wait until food is scarce before deciding to prepare. How often do we do the opposite?

We wait until we're in trouble before making a change.

We wait until we're out of shape before exercising.

We wait until finances are tight before creating a budget.

We wait until relationships are struggling before investing time in them.

Wise people prepare before they have to.

The best time to prepare is long before the challenge arrives.

3. Success Is a Team Sport

An individual ant can accomplish very little.

A colony can accomplish extraordinary things.

Ants understand something that many people never learn:

Together is stronger than alone.

No ant is trying to be the star.

Each one simply does its part.

Whether it's in hockey, business, or your family, great things happen when people stop worrying about who gets the credit and start focusing on the mission.

4. Obstacles Don't Stop Them

Have you ever watched an ant encounter an obstacle?

It doesn't quit.

It doesn't complain.

It doesn't turn around and go home.

It finds another way.

Over it.

Under it.

Around it.

It just keeps moving.

Life is going to put obstacles in front of all of us.

The question isn't whether we'll face adversity.

The question is whether we'll allow adversity to stop us.

Persistence often beats talent.

5. They Rebuild Without Complaining

Knock down an anthill and watch what happens.

Within hours, they're rebuilding.

They don't waste time pointing fingers.

They don't argue about whose fault it was.

They don't give up because things didn't go according to plan.

They simply get back to work.

That's resilience.

Every one of us will experience setbacks.

The people who succeed aren't the ones who never get knocked down.

They're the ones who refuse to stay there.

One Final Thought

As I reflected on this passage, one thing stood out to me.

The ant has no title. No trophies. No applause. No social media followers. No one cheering it on.

Yet God points to this tiny creature and says,

"Watch it. Learn from it."

Maybe that's because true greatness isn't found in recognition. It's found in faithfulness.

Faithfully doing the right things.

Faithfully preparing.

Faithfully serving others.

Faithfully showing up.

Faithfully refusing to quit.

The world celebrates talent.

God celebrates faithfulness.

So this week, don't wait for someone to motivate you.

Don't wait for someone to recognize you.

Don't wait for perfect circumstances.

Just get to work.

Be the ant.

If your business needs marketing that works, give us a call. We're here to help!

Have a great day unless you chose otherwise!
