Fight The Good Fight!
I was having a conversation with a friend recently, and he said something that stuck with me: “It seems like everything is a fight these days.”
He wasn't talking about politics or what we see on the news.
He was talking about life.
The fight to stay disciplined.
The fight to stay positive.
The fight to protect your family.
The fight to build something meaningful.
The fight to keep your faith when life doesn't make sense.
The more I thought about it, the more I realized:
Almost everything worthwhile requires a fight.
The Fight Is Part of the Journey
I've experienced this throughout my own journey.
As a hockey player, you fought for a spot on the team, for ice time, and sometimes just to keep your dream alive.
You fought through injuries, disappointment, fatigue, and self-doubt.
Today, as a coach, I see young players facing many of those same battles.
They want to get better, but getting better requires sacrifice. They have to show up when they're tired, work on the things they're not good at, and respond to disappointment instead of allowing it to define them.
Life really isn't that different.
Whether it's our health, marriage, family, business, relationships, or faith, the things that matter most usually require something from us.
Maybe that's part of what makes them valuable.
Choose Your Fight
One thing I've learned as I've gotten older is that not every battle deserves our energy.
Some things we need to let go.
But there are other things worth fighting for.
Your family.
Your faith.
Your health.
Your character.
Your purpose.
The people God has placed in your life.
So the question isn't whether you'll face battles.
You will.
The question is: What are you willing to fight for?
And maybe an even better question is: Is it worth it?
Because if something is truly worth it, you'll give it your time, energy, commitment, and sacrifice.
The Battle Changes You
I've also learned that fighting for something doesn't mean you're always going to win.
Sometimes you'll get knocked down.
I've experienced that in hockey, business, coaching, and life.
But looking back, some of the battles I never would have chosen became the experiences that shaped me the most.
They taught me perseverance.
They taught me humility.
They taught me what really matters.
And they strengthened my faith.
Faith doesn't mean we won't have battles.
It means we trust that God can use those battles for a purpose we may not yet understand.
The battle may be temporary.
Who you become through it can last a lifetime.
Final Thought
We don't get to choose every battle that comes into our lives.
But we do get to choose what we're willing to fight for.
I've come to believe we fight hardest for the things we love most.
That's what gives perseverance a purpose.
So take a look at your life this week and ask yourself: What is worth fighting for?
What matters enough that you're willing to stay when leaving would be easier?
To keep working when you're tired?
To keep believing when you're discouraged?
To get back up when you've been knocked down?
If it's worth it, fight for it.
Fight for your family.
Fight for your faith.
Fight for your purpose.
Fight to become the person God created you to be.
Because sometimes the greatest victory isn't winning the battle.
It's who you become while fighting it.
Keep the faith.
Keep moving forward.
And fight the good fight.
