The Game of Opportunity

The other night, I was reading about baseball players and how often they fail at the plate. It really hit me how much that applies to life — and to hockey.

In baseball, even the best hitters in the world fail most of the time. A Hall of Famer will fail to get a hit two out of three times.

Video Of The Week – Leadership Has a Price

Most players will fail three out of four. Pitchers give up home runs, and fielders make errors. Failure is built into the game.

As I read that, I couldn’t help but think back to my days playing professional hockey. Hockey, too, is a game of failure — missed passes, shots that hit the post, games that don’t go your way.

And business isn’t much different. No matter how well you plan, there are deals that fall through, goals that slip away, and seasons that test your resolve.

But I’ve learned something powerful over the years: it’s not really about failure — it’s about opportunity.

In sports and in life, you always get another shift, another play, another chance.

You can’t change the last game or the last mistake, but you can choose how you show up for the next one.

When I look back at my career, there were moments I could have let failure define me — injuries, setbacks, times when things didn’t unfold the way I hoped. But those moments also taught me persistence, humility, and resilience.

They made me tougher, hungrier, and more focused on the things that truly matter.

It’s the same message I share with the players I coach now: don’t get stuck on the last play.

Shift your focus to the next opportunity. That’s where growth happens.

Life will give you plenty of chances to swing and miss. But if you keep showing up with faith, commitment, and belief — sooner or later, you connect.

So today, whether you’re in the middle of a tough game, a business challenge, or a personal struggle, remember: failure isn’t final — it’s formative.

Every setback is shaping you for something greater.

You can look at life as a game of failure… or a game of opportunity.

The difference is how you choose to see it.

If your business needs marketing that works, give us a call. We're here to help!

Have a great day unless you chose otherwise!

Quote of the Week

The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.

Nelson Mandela

Word of the Week

Etymology (eh-tuh-mah-luh-jee): is an explanation of a word’s history—that is, where the word came from and how it developed.

EG: As a word nerd, I’m always eager to learn a word’s etymology and trace it back to its earliest known origins.

Proverb of the Week

Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.
